What A Coating Actually Does
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer (typically SiO₂ or grapheneinfused) that chemically bonds to your clear coat, forming a semipermanent sacrificial layer. It does NOT make your car scratchproof — it makes it dramatically easier to clean and far more resistant to chemical etching.
The 9H Hardness Myth
9H refers to pencil hardness on coated glass slides — not your paint. Realworld benefit is chemical and UV resistance, not impact protection. Anyone promising rockchip prevention from a coating is selling fiction (that's what PPF is for).
Hydrophobic = SelfCleaning Lite
Water beads and sheets off instead of clinging, taking dirt with it. Bird droppings, sap and brake dust wipe away with a damp cloth instead of needing chemical decon every wash.
Longevity Is About Prep & Maintenance
A '5year' coating lasts 5 years only if the prep was perfect (decon, polish, panel wipe) and the owner does a quarterly maintenance wash with a pHneutral shampoo. Cut corners on either end and you'll be reapplying in 12 months.
