Why Headlights Yellow
The polycarbonate lens has a thin UVprotective coating that degrades after 47 years of sun exposure. Once gone, the plastic itself oxidizes, turns yellow, and gets microscopically rough — scattering light in every direction except where you need it.
The Safety Cost
Independent testing shows oxidized headlights output as little as 22% of original light. That's the difference between seeing a deer at 200 feet vs 80 feet at highway speed.
The Right Fix
Wetsand through the oxidized layer, polish the lens back to optical clarity, then apply a fresh UV sealant or ceramic coating. Done right, it lasts 23 years. Done wrong (no UV protection), it's hazy again in 6 months.
When To Replace Instead
